Coldwater Creek surges; J.C. Penney drops

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Coldwater Creek Inc. shares surged 48% to 77 cents a share on Tuesday after the women's clothing retailer received a liquidity boost from Golden Gate Capital. Shoe company Wolverine Worldwide shares rose 4.4% to $40 after the company backed its full-year profit guidance. J.C. Penney Co. fell 4.8% after Credit Suisse doubled its adjusted second-quarter loss estimate for the department store operator. Limited Brands Inc. was up almost 1%. Its stock reportedly was cut to hold from buy by Argus. Target Corp. climbed 0.8%. The discount retailer and luxury retailer Neiman Marcus said they will create a limited-edition holiday collection featuring 24 designers this holiday season.
