Latin American markets rise; TAM gains 5%

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Brazil's Ibovespa index rose 0.6% Monday to 56,462.49, extending gains into a third week. Steelmaker Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais weighed on the index, falling 3.2%. Airline-operator TAM's shares rose 5.6% and were among the index's top gainers. Last week Chile's LAN Airlines extended by 10 days a share swap related to LAN's takeover of TAM. Chile's IPSA equity index edged up 0.19%. Mexico's IPC index rose 0.2% to 37,825.54, supported by metal and mineral stocks.
