Australian shares rise with miners in the lead

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Australian shares rose on Monday, with the S&P/ASX 200 index up 0.7% at 4,110.20. Miners were among the best performers in early trading, after metal futures performed solidly in New York on Friday following in-line Chinese growth data, with Rio Tinto Ltd. up 1.9% and Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. up 2.3%. Investment-banking firm Macquarie Group Ltd. rose 1.1%, with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. quarterly earnings helping lift the broader U.S. equity market to a solid gain on Friday.
