SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Oil futures turned lower Tuesday, as investors grappled with weak consumer-confidence data and mixed U.S. stocks. Crude for August delivery lost 53 cents, or 0.6%, to $78.70 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract had spent most of early trading as well as Asian and European hours in the black, following losses on Monday.
