Phoenix International Freight Services, Ltd. has been named one of the "Healthiest Companies in America," by Illinois-based Interactive Health Solutions (IHS). This award was given to 34 companies out of over 1,000 clients who are committed to the concept of preventative healthcare, and have taken an active role in their employees' well-being.

The Healthiest Companies in America rankings are based on a series of clinical evaluations of employee participants across an index of key health indicators designed by IHS.

Phoenix has offered onsite health screenings through IHS since 2004. 300 employees participated in these free health screens in 2010.

"Phoenix truly cares about the health and well-being of our employees, which is why we offer these free comprehensive health screens -- to give employees the opportunity to take a proactive approach to their healthcare," said Kim Brown, HR Administrator.

Current statistics regarding healthcare costs show that:

-- 75 percent of healthcare costs are preventable, while less than three percent of all healthcare dollars are spent on preventative practices, per the Centers for Disease Control.

-- Estimates show that 20 percent of an employer's staff is typically responsible for 80 percent of all healthcare costs.

-- The remaining population usually falls into low or moderate risk health categories, but as each year passes, many will migrate to a higher risk, higher cost status.
