Boeing delivers half the commercial planes it delivered in 2018
Boeing Co. (BA) said Tuesday it delivered 380 commercial planes by the end of 2019, including 79 aircraft in the fourth quarter. That compares with 806 commercial planes delivered by the end of 2018, including fourth-quarter 2018 deliveries of 238 aircraft. Boeing is dealing with the continued fallout from the worldwide grounding of its 737 Max planes following deadly crashes and concerns about the plane's certification process. New Chief Executive David Calhoun took over from Dennis Muilenburg on Monday, roughly a week after the emergence of internal emails that showed Boeing employees mocking the design of the 737 Max and bragging about fooling federal regulators. Shares of Boeing rose 1.1% on Tuesday and are down 5% for the past 12 months, contrasting with gains of 27% for the S&P 500 index and 21% for the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the same period. Boeing is a Dow component.
