U.S. confirmed cases of coronavirus top 8 million, Johns Hopkins data show
The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus illness COVID-19 in the U.S. topped 8 million early afternoon Friday, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University, (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html) as the death toll headed toward 218,000. The global tally now stands at 39.1 million and 1.1 million people have died. With 4% of the global population, the U.S. accounts for about 20% of global cases and more than 20% of global deaths.
