Key by Amazon adds Wi-Fi deadbolt, Key for Garage and other products and services

Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) said Monday that it's adding a variety of products and services to Key by Amazon, a smart system that locks and unlocks customers' doors. The Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt that operates with just Wi-Fi and the Key app will be priced at about $250, or $300 with the Amazon Cloud Cam bundle. It will start shipping on March 5. Key for Garage, available in the second quarter of 2019, allows customers to control their garage door with the Key app. Ring customers will be able to lock and unlock their Key-compatible doors with the Ring app starting in the first quarter. And the latest Key for Business technology, available now for residential and commercial buildings, allows building owners and managers to grant access for Amazon deliveries. Amazon Key was launched for in-home delivery service in 2017 (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/amazon-launches-in-home-delivery-service-amazon-key-2017-10-25), and Amazon acquired the smart-doorbell maker Ring (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/amazon-buys-smart-doorbell-maker-ring-in-deal-valued-at-more-than-1-billion-2018-02-27) in 2018. Amazon shares are up 3% in Monday trading, and up 32% for the past year. The S&P 500 index has slumped nearly 7% for the last 12 months.
