Apple Inc. (AAPL) subsidiary FileMaker Inc. has a new name, sort of. The database-software company, which started as Claris in 1987, is going back to that moniker in a move to rebrand the company, it announced on Tuesday. "It's a sign of change," new Claris CEO Brad Freitag told MarketWatch over the phone. As part of its rebirth, Claris also announced the acquisition of Stamplay, an API integration developer. The renamed Claris will have no impact on its relationship with parent company Apple, Freitag said.
