U.S. stocks opened slightly lower on Tuesday as investors watched for the European Central Bank's policy meeting later this week and for further developments on U.S.-China trade negotiations. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% to 2,970. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 31 points, or 0.1%, to 26,805. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5% to 8,046. The ECB is expected to announce a slew of stimulus measures on Thursday even as members of its policymaking committee argue that additional easing may be counterproductive. In company news, shares of Ford Motor Co. (F) fell 4.3% after Moody's Investors Service downgraded the company into 'junk', or below-investment grade.
