Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) said Tuesday that it plans to add 150 technology jobs in Santa Barbara, Calif., as it expands its Alexa operations in the Southern California city. Amazon said it has opened a new 48,000 square foot office for Alexa tech teams, with plans to double the workforce. The tech teams in Santa Barbara are developing new ways to power Alexas's "factual knowledge devices," including the Amazon Echo and Fire TV. Among the jobs available in Santa Barbara are software and data engineers, machine learning associates, data scientists, knowledge engineers and product managers. "We have been able to hire great talent in Santa Barbara and look forward to doubling our workforce here," said Kevin Davis, site lead of the Santa Barbara office. Amazon's stock, which rose 1.3% in morning trading, has rallied 24.3% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 21.2%.
