UPDATE: Jack in the Box launching Boosted Coffee in the spring

Jack In the Box Inc. (JACK) is launching Jack's New Boosted Coffee this spring, which has the strength of two cups of coffee. Also in the spring, the quick-service chain is bringing back its 2 for $4 croissant deal in the morning. The effort comes as the "breakfast wars" between fast-food chains heats up. Wendy's Co. (WEN) launched its new breakfast menu (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/wendys-is-roasting-the-competition-ahead-of-its-breakfast-launch-and-analysts-approve-2020-02-28) on Monday, and McDonald's Corp. (MCD) declared the same day National Egg McMuffin Day to draw consumers. Spending on breakfast and morning snacks has increased on a compound annual growth rate of 5% for the last five years, according to NPD Group data. Jack in the Box recently added Loaded Breakfast Sticks, a Hot Pockets item, and ham and cheddar omelet sandwiches to its all-day breakfast menu as well. Jack in the Box stock slipped nearly 1% in Tuesday premarket trading and is down 9.5% over the last 12 months. The S&P 500 index has gained 10.2% over the past year.
