Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (FCX) is a mining company. The Company operates through geographical assets with proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum, and traded copper producer. The Company's segments include refined copper products, copper in concentrate, gold, molybdenum, oil and other. The Company's segments include the Morenci, Cerro Verde, Grasberg copper mines, the Rod & Refining operations and the United States (U.S.) Oil and Gas Operations. The Company has organized its operations into five divisions, which include North America copper mines, South America mining, Indonesia mining and Molybdenum mines. The Company's portfolio of assets includes the Grasberg minerals district in Indonesia, copper and gold deposits, and mining operations in the Americas, including the large-scale Morenci minerals district in North America and the Cerro Verde operation in South America.

Only one Dow Jones Industrial Average component declined

U.S. stocks staged a strong, broad rally on Monday (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/dow-futures-climb-300-points-as-feds-powell-says-dont-bet-against-american-economy-even-as-unemployment-could-rise-to-25-2020-05-17), as investors cheered the continued reopening of the U.S. economy and good news about coronavirus vaccine trials from Moderna Inc.

The S&P 500 airlines industry group surged 14.3% as data from the Transportation Security Administration showed air passenger traffic had risen for four straight weeks (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/airline-stocks-soar-on-upbeat-tsa-data-analyst-commentary-2020-05-18). Riding on the coattails of the airlines was the S&P 500 hotels, resorts and cruise lines industry group, which leapt 13.4% on the day.

The S&P 500 airlines as a group are still down 61% this year, while the hotels, resorts and cruise lines industry group is down 51% for 2020, according to FactSet.

Among major benchmarks, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 912 points, or 3.9%, to close at 24,597.37. The index is now down 13.8% for 2020 after bottoming on MARCH 23. (All figures in this article exclude dividends.)

The S&P 500 index soared was lifted 3.2% and ended down 8.6% for 2020.

The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 2.4% and now shows a gain for 2020 of 2.9%. Shares of Moderna (MRNA) soared 20% after the company announced positive results for a Phase 1 clinical trial of its mRNA coronavirus vaccine (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/modernas-stock-soars-on-positive-early-stage-data-for-its-coronavirus-vaccine-candidate-2020-05-18).
