Beyond Meat Inc. (BYND) is launching a plant-based burger, Cookout Classic, for a limited time at Walmart Inc. (WMT), Target Corp. (TGT) and other mass retailers starting June 22. The item, which is priced at $15.99 for a 10-pack of patties, is marketed as a more affordable option "and is intended to narrow the price gap between plant-based meat and animal protein, making delicious, nutritious and sustainable plant-based meat more accessible to more people" Beyond Meat said in a statement. Cookout Classic will be available until mid-August, or while supplies last. Beyond Meat products are also available at Kroger Co. (KR), Publix and other grocers. The plant-based meat company plans to launch a direct-to-consumer website later this summer. Beyond Meat shares jumped 7.8% in Wednesday trading and has soared more than 116% for the year to date. The S&P 500 index has fallen 3.3% for the year to date.
