UPDATE: Apple rolls out new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max devices with camera upgrades

The iPhone 12 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max begins at $1,099

Apple Inc. unveiled the high-end iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max devices at a virtual launch event Tuesday. These phones will support 5G connectivity, along with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 devices ( that Apple announced earlier in its presentation.

The company focused on the iPhone 12 Pro's camera enhancements, as both phones in the Pro line have a triple-camera setup. The phones will also have Apple's (AAPL) A14 Bionic chip, which the company said offers the fastest CPU and GPU performance in a smartphone.

Apple also is adding a LiDAR scanner to the Pro models, allowing the phones to engage in better depth sensing. The LiDAR scanner can see in the dark and improves low-light photos, the company said. It also allows for better augmented-reality capabilities.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro will begin at $999, while the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max will start at $1,099. The phones will come in silver, graphite, blue, and gold stainless steel color options. Preorders for the iPhone 12 Pro kick off Oct. 16 at 8 a.m. Eastern, with availability beginning Oct. 23. Preorders for the iPhone 12 Pro Max start Nov. 6, with availability beginning Nov. 13.
