Target Corp. (TGT) Chief Executive Brian Cornell announced in a Monday memo that all of its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day going forward. The retailer closed its store locations on Thanksgiving in 2020, and will do so again this year. Other retailers, including Walmart Inc. (WMT) will close their doors for Thanksgiving 2021 as well. "What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard - one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests' holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours," he wrote in the announcement to Target staff, which was sent to MarketWatch. "You don't have to wonder whether this is the last Thanksgiving you'll spend with family and friends for a while, because Thanksgiving store hours are one thing we won't 'get back to' when the pandemic finally subsides." Target stock has gained 42% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index up 25% for the period.
