TikTok working with Oracle to develop data management protocols

TikTok has moved the information of its American customers to servers at Oracle Corp. to appease U.S. regulators and their worries over data integrity on the popular video app, Oracle told MarketWatch on Friday.

"For more than a year, we've been working with Oracle (ORCL) on several measures as part of our commercial relationship to better safeguard our app, systems, and the security of U.S. user data," Albert Calamug, U.S. Security Public Policy at TikTok, said in a blog post.

"In addition, we're working closely with Oracle to develop data management protocols that Oracle will audit and manage to give users even more peace of mind," Calamug added.

Nearly two years ago, a U.S. national security panel ordered ByteDance to divest TikTok out of fears that the data of U.S. users could be passed to the Chinese government.

The White House and U.S. Treasury were not immediately available for comment.

Oracle's stock slipped 0.3% in afternoon trading Friday. It has dropped 21.5% year to date, while the S&P 500 index has shed 22.5%.
