Anywhere real estate cuts work force by 11% since June in face of housing slowdown
Anywhere Real Estate Inc. (HOUS) said in a filing Tuesday it has reduced its work force by 11% since June 30 including a "meaningful" reduction on Monday. The Madison, N.J.-based real estate brokerage and services company reported 9,665 full-time employees and 165 part-time employees as of Dec. 31, 2021 in its annual report. Anywhere Real Estate said the job cuts come in reaction to "worsening trends" in the housing market. "We believe that industry dynamics and customer demands will require simplified and more integrated and digitized offerings, systems and support," the company said. "Delivering the company's business model more digitally is an increasing part of our improving the consumer experience and our ongoing cost focus." Shares of Anywhere Real Estate are down 56.7% in the past 12 months, compared to a 28.8% drop in the Nasdaq.
